Lhaviyani Atoll

Lhaviyani Atoll (also known as Faadhippolhu Atoll) is located in the northern part of the Maldives. The islands are the perfect combination of tranquillity and adventure. Only four out of the atoll's 54 islands are inhabited; HInnavaru, Kurendhoo, Olhuvelifushi, and the capital Naifaru. The islands are roughly 30 to 40-minutes away from the Male' International Airport by seaplane. The atoll has 11 resorts including the pristine Cocoon Maldives and the idyllic Hurawalhi Island Resort. The natural landscape is one that is truly unmatched, with the atoll being home to numerous species of wildlife. The Lhaviyani Atoll is famed for the Kuredu Caves, a dive site that is locally known as the Turtle Airport due to its large population of resident green sea turtles. One of the best diving sites in the atoll is the Fushivaru Thila, a protected area. The site has a manta cleaning station, cave formations, vibrant reefs, and is frequented by grey sharks. Located in the capital Naifaru is the Atoll Marine Center. It is an initiative run by locals and international volunteers, where those passionate about the environment can support their sustainability initiatives and meet sea turtles and clownfish up close. The staff and volunteers are always on hand, happy to answer any questions.
