RESORT COMPARISON
Best Resorts for Solo Travelers
The single supplement reality, social resorts, and strategies to avoid paying double.
The Single Supplement Reality
Nearly every Maldives resort prices rooms per villa, not per person. A villa built for two costs the same whether one or two people stay in it. This means solo travelers typically pay the full double-occupancy rate.
On top of this, all-inclusive and half-board meal plans are priced per person. So the total cost for a solo traveler is roughly 60 to 70% of what a couple would pay, not 50%. The room is the same price; only meals scale down.
A few resorts offer reduced single supplements during off-peak months. We list them below.

4 Strategies to Avoid Paying Double
How to bring the cost closer to what a couple would pay per person.
Book Shoulder Season
30 to 50% off peak ratesWeather is still mostly good. Some rain, but also fewer guests. Some resorts waive or reduce single supplements during these months.
Choose Room-Only Rates
20 to 40% vs all-inclusiveIf you eat light, room-only plus paying per meal costs less than all-inclusive. Works best at resorts with multiple restaurants and varied pricing.
Use a Travel Agent
10 to 25% via negotiated ratesAgents have contracted rates not available online. They can also negotiate single supplement reductions directly with the resort.
Book Last-Minute
Up to 50% offResorts discount unsold rooms 2 to 4 weeks before arrival. Single rooms are easier to fill last-minute, so resorts are more willing to deal.
Dining Alone: What to Expect
Buffet Resorts
Kuramathi, Meeru, Kandima. Grab your plate, sit at any table. No awkward waiting for a table for one. Most natural solo dining format.
Bar Counter Seating
W Maldives, Dhigali, most luxury resorts. Eat at the bar. You will chat with bartenders and other guests. Less formal than a table.
In-Villa Dining
Available everywhere. Order room service to your deck. Watch the sunset with your meal. No self-consciousness about dining alone.
Working Remotely from a Resort
Best WiFi
- 1. W Maldives - 50+ Mbps, reliable in-villa
- 2. Gili Lankanfushi - Strong throughout property
- 3. Kandima - Good speed, stable connection
Practical Tips
- Maldives is UTC+5. Plan calls around this offset.
- Bring a portable hotspot as backup. Dhiraagu and Ooredoo sell tourist SIMs at the airport.
- Overwater villas sometimes have weaker WiFi than beach villas due to distance from routers.
- Most resorts have a business center or library area with stronger connections.
