What Each Restaurant is Actually Like
Beyond the marketing photos. What to expect when you sit down.
Ithaa Undersea Restaurant
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, South Ari Atoll
The original underwater restaurant, opened in 2005. All-glass curved acrylic structure. Small, so it feels private. Coral and reef fish visible on all sides. The curved ceiling gives a tunnel effect.
Best Viewing
Midday, when sunlight penetrates deepest
Dress Code
Smart casual
5.8 Undersea Restaurant
Hurawalhi Island Resort, Lhaviyani Atoll
Named for its exact depth. Larger than Ithaa, so less cramped. Adults-only resort, so no children at any table. Strong natural light during the day. The house reef is well-maintained, so marine life is consistent.
Best Viewing
Afternoon, when reef sharks patrol the area
Dress Code
Smart casual, no swimwear
SEA Underwater Restaurant
Anantara Kihavah Maldives, Baa Atoll
Part of a larger overwater complex with a wine cellar and bar above. The smallest, most exclusive dining room. Located in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, so marine life diversity is exceptional. Manta rays frequent this area June through November.
Best Viewing
Evening, with illuminated underwater lighting
Dress Code
Smart casual
SUBSIX
Niyama Private Islands, Dhaalu Atoll
The largest underwater venue. Doubles as a nightclub on select evenings. Reached by boat from the resort, not by walkway. That boat ride adds to the experience. The only underwater venue with a DJ booth.
Best Viewing
Night, when the venue transforms into a club
Dress Code
Smart casual
M6m
OZEN Reserve Bolifushi, South Male Atoll
Included in the all-inclusive RESERVE Plan. No extra charge for guests on that plan. Closest underwater restaurant to Male airport (35 minutes by speedboat). Good entry point if you want the experience without the top-tier price.
Best Viewing
Lunchtime, best natural light
Dress Code
Resort casual

What Nobody Tells You
The Photo Problem
- Glass reflects flash. Phone cameras struggle.
- Midday light is best for natural photos.
- Evening meals look dramatic in person, dark in photos.
- Ask staff to take photos; they know the angles.
Booking Strategy
- Book before you arrive. These fill weeks ahead.
- Lunch slots are easier to get than dinner.
- Ithaa and SEA require reservations at check-in.
- M6m is included in the plan, so book day one.
Honest Take
- The food is good, not life-changing. You pay for the setting.
- Smaller venues (Ithaa, SEA) feel more special.
- SUBSIX as a club is more fun than SUBSIX as a restaurant.
- M6m is the best value if already on the plan.
