The Marketing vs. Reality Gap

What resort brochures imply vs. what you will actually experience at the water sports center.

What "Complimentary" Often Means

  • ! Non-motorized only. Kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkel gear. No jet skis, no parasailing, no wakeboarding.
  • ! Session-based. 30-60 minutes per booking. You return equipment and re-book, which may mean waiting.
  • ! Operating hours only. Typically 9am-5pm. No sunset paddleboarding unless you ask and they agree.
  • ! Equipment varies. Budget resorts have older kayaks and scratched masks. Premium resorts have newer gear.

What "Actually Free" Looks Like

  • + Self-service. Walk up, take a kayak, go. No booking, no time limit. Kuramathi and Constance Moofushi do this.
  • + No surcharges. Every activity in the category is fully covered. No "premium" equipment tier that costs extra.
  • + Good equipment maintained regularly. You should not be paddling a cracked kayak at a $500/night resort.
  • + Diving included. Only Constance Moofushi includes a daily dive. This alone is worth $60-90/day.

  • Whale shark excursion: $80-150
🎣

How to Get the Most Value

Before Booking

  • Ask us exactly which activities are included and which cost extra
  • Compare total cost: cheaper room + paid activities vs. pricier all-inclusive
  • If you dive, Constance Moofushi's included dive saves $60-90/day
  • Family of four doing daily kayaking and snorkeling? All-inclusive saves money

At the Resort

  • Book popular equipment early in the morning for best availability
  • Bring your own snorkel mask; resort ones rarely fit well
  • Ask about sunrise/sunset sessions outside operating hours
  • Tip the water sports team; they will remember you next time
