Why It Works

The Antidote to the Polar Winter

The dry season lands exactly when Scandinavia is at its darkest. It is the reason the Maldives is a Nordic winter favourite.

Warmth and light in deep winter

November to March is peak Maldives weather and peak Nordic darkness. You swap short grey days for 30 degrees and long, bright ones.

Quiet, design-led islands

Understated, nature-led luxury suits Nordic taste. We know the calm, beautifully designed resorts, from Soneva to smaller barefoot islands.

English throughout, no barrier

Everything on the water runs in English, and you plan the whole trip with us in English, from first quote to arrival.

Common Questions

Maldives from the Nordics: FAQ

How much is a Maldives holiday from the Nordics?
A Maldives holiday from Scandinavia typically costs 1,900 to 3,200 euros per person for a value resort stay (half-board, speedboat transfer, 7 nights) including flights. Mid-range overwater villa stays at 5-star resorts cost 3,800 to 7,500 euros per person. Luxury overwater villas at top-tier resorts (Soneva, Waldorf Astoria, Cheval Blanc) reach 9,500 euros or more per person. Return flights from Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, or Helsinki add roughly 700 to 1,500 euros per person in economy, and more over Christmas and the winter breaks.
Are there direct flights from Scandinavia to the Maldives?
Finnair has operated a seasonal nonstop from Helsinki (HEL) to Malé in around 10 to 11 hours during the winter season. Otherwise the easiest routes are one-stop from Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, and Helsinki via a hub: Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates via Dubai, or Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, with a total journey of about 13 to 16 hours. We match the routing to your arrival window so the seaplane or speedboat transfer connects the same day.
Do Nordic travellers need a visa for the Maldives?
No. Passport holders from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland all receive a free 30-day visa on arrival at Velana International Airport (MLE). You need a passport valid for at least six months from your entry date, proof of onward travel, and a confirmed resort booking. Nothing needs to be applied for in advance.
When is the best time for Nordic travellers to visit the Maldives?
The Maldives dry season runs November to April, which is exactly the depth of the Nordic winter: swapping polar darkness for clear skies, calm seas, and warm water. Christmas and New Year, the Swedish sportlov and other February breaks, and Easter are the peak windows, so book those six to nine months ahead. Late April and May offer good weather with lower prices as the season eases.
Can I budget and pay in my own currency?
Maldives resorts price and charge everything in US Dollars, so on-island spending is in USD. We quote your full package clearly and can present the total in Swedish kronor, Norwegian kroner, Danish kroner, or euros for budgeting, then confirm the USD resort rate. Credit cards are accepted everywhere at resorts; bring a small amount of USD cash for staff tips.
How long should a Nordics-to-Maldives trip be?
Most Nordic travellers stay 7 to 10 nights, which suits both the flight and the generous Scandinavian holiday allowance, and makes the winter escape properly worth it. Honeymooners and anyone combining two atolls often go 10 to 14 nights, sometimes as a split-stay across two resorts. A shorter 5-night trip is possible but feels brief after the journey.
