January is the heart of the Maldives dry season. Skies are mostly clear, with only occasional brief showers (averaging 5 rain days for the month). Sea conditions are calm, ideal for snorkelling, sandbank trips, and seaplane transfers. Sunset and sunrise are spectacularly reliable.
January is the most expensive month to visit, with rates typically 30–50% higher than shoulder season. Resorts often have New Year carryover events through the first week. Book at least 4–6 months ahead. Chinese New Year falls in late January or February (varies by year). Expect additional crowds from East Asian source markets.
