How much does a Maldives airport transfer cost?
+
Round-trip per-person transfer costs in the Maldives are roughly $100–$490 for a shared speedboat (resorts within 80 km of Malé), $400–$820 for a shared seaplane (resorts further out), and $350–$520 for a domestic flight plus speedboat (far-south resorts). For a couple, that adds roughly $200–$1,600 to the trip. Exact cost depends on the resort, the season, and whether the transfer is shared or private — we confirm it on your quote.
Do I need to book my own seaplane transfer?
+
No. Seaplane transfers are arranged by the resort, not booked by you. The resort schedules the flight, handles your luggage, and meets you at the dedicated seaplane lounge at Velana airport. The cost appears on your resort invoice. When you book through IM, we coordinate the entire transfer — you simply arrive at Velana and you're looked after from there.
Are transfers included in the room rate?
+
Usually not. Most Maldives resorts quote the room rate separately from the transfer, and the transfer is one of the biggest surprises on a final bill. Some resorts include transfers in special offers or longer-stay packages. Every IM package states clearly whether the transfer is included — and if it isn't, we quote it up front so there's no surprise.
Why can't I take a seaplane at night?
+
Seaplanes in the Maldives operate in daylight only — roughly 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM — because they land on open water and need visibility. If your international flight arrives after about 3:00 PM, you'll likely overnight at an airport-area hotel ($80–$150) and fly to the resort the next morning. Speedboat resorts don't have this restriction; they run 24/7.
Do children pay full price for transfers?
+
No. Children aged roughly 2–11 typically receive a 30–40% discount on transfers, and infants under 2 are usually free or heavily reduced. Exact child pricing varies by resort and transfer operator — we confirm it per resort on your quote.
How much are transfers for a family of four?
+
For a family of four (2 adults + 2 children) round trip, expect roughly $300–$1,000 for a near-Malé shared speedboat resort, and $1,400–$2,400 for a seaplane resort, with the child discount applied. Transfers are often the single largest add-on for families choosing a seaplane resort — for budget-conscious families, a speedboat resort close to Malé materially lowers the total.
What's the difference between a shared and a private transfer?
+
A shared transfer runs on the resort's schedule alongside other guests — it's the standard, and what the ranges on this page reflect. A private speedboat or charter is exclusive to your party, runs on your timing, and costs considerably more. Most guests take the shared transfer; private is worth considering for very late arrivals or special occasions. We'll price both if you'd like to compare.
Can IM arrange private charter transfers for groups or weddings?
+
Yes. IM holds partner agreements with Maldives seaplane and speedboat operators, and arranges private charters for groups, wedding parties, and guests who want to travel on their own schedule. A private charter means your party flies or sails exclusively — no shared timetable, no waiting. Send us your group size, dates, and resort, and we'll quote the charter alongside the standard shared transfer so you can compare.
